MotoGP start time: What time does the Teruel Grand Prix start? – MotoGP

MotoGP

Takaaki Nakagami has secured an historic maiden MotoGP pole position for the Teruel Grand Prix. Here’s how and when you can watch the race.

It marks Japan’s first MotoGP polesitter in the premier class since Makoto Tamada in 2004, with Nakagami beating Petronas SRT Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli by 0.063s, as new world championship points leader Joan Mir struggled down in 12th place for Suzuki.

Qualifying was also a nightmare for Andrea Dovizioso as he dropped out in Q1 and will start the Teruel GP in a lowly 17th place for Ducati.

Aragon GP winner Alex Rins lines up from the outside of the front row for Suzuki ahead Maverick Vinales in fourth place on the factory Yamaha, while the team is still without Valentino Rossi who is out of action having tested positive for COVID-19.

Johann Zarco led the Ducati charge in fifth place on his Avintia ahead of last week’s polesitter Fabio Quartararo on the Petronas SRT Yamaha.

What is the Teruel GP?

The ‘new’ races on the redrawn 2020 MotoGP calendar have all been part of double-headers at the same circuit (Andalusia GP at Jerez, Styrian GP at the Red Bull Ring and Emilia Romagna GP at Misano).

With different races not allowed the same name in the same MotoGP world championship season, Aragon’s second race has been named after the region the circuit is situated in, maintaining the trend of the previous double-headers.

The Valencia double-header will follow a different naming format, with its opening grand prix called the European GP before the second race takes its traditional Valencia GP title. This is because all key region names have already been taken on the shaken-up 2020 calendar. It sees the European GP race title being reintroduced to the series for the first time since 1995 when it was used for the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya race.
