In the space of three days, the World Rally Championship lost its 2019 season finale and potentially its most successful team of this century – Citroen – too.
While WRC personnel were still making their way back from Australia following the cancellation of the event due to the horrendous bush fires that had raged in the area, news emerged that Citroen was likely to quit the series with immediate effect.
In the latest episode of our new Gravel Notes rallying podcast, DAVID EVANS explains more about the situation in Australia this week and why trying to hold the rally would’ve been totally inappropriate. But was the cancellation call made too late?
He also looks at the implications of Citroen’s possible departure, especially on the driver market.
Is it really as simple as Sebastien Ogier slotting straight in at Toyota or might there be an alternative? And who is going to be left on the outside without a drive as the WRC field shrinks?
