Ferrari recently tried and failed to get Formula 1 to revert to 2018-specification Pirelli tyres in a bid to close Mercedes’ advantage this season.
Ferrari pushed for the switch in the middle of a disappointing and so far winless 2019 campaign, suggesting that the change was for the good of the championship in a year where F1 has been plagued with criticism over boring races and single team dominance.
But a lack of support from rival teams meant it failed to get to be pushed through, with team boss Mattia Binotto then saying F1 should be “ashamed” of itself.
Edd Straw and Scott Mitchell join Glenn Freeman to explain Ferrari’s position, why Binotto was so passionate in his reaction, and if a big team like Ferrari really should be pushing for rule changes to help it win races.
