Lexus locked out the front row of the grid in Thailand after Team LeMans’s new recruit Kenta Yamashita broke the lap record in a closely-fought qualifying session.
Nissan topped the sole practice of the weekend but was unable to take the fight to Lexus in qualifying, although third position for its B-Max team gives it a good shot at scoring its first win of 2019.
Honda appeared to struggle in qualifying, with only two of its five cars progressing to final leg of the session.
Its charge was led by the Kunimitsu duo of Jenson Button and Naoki Yamamoto, who qualified seventh in an all-Honda fourth row.
