Veteran engineer John Gentry has worked in almost every conceivable branch of motorsport – from Formula 1 to grand prix motorcycling, sportscars and touring car racing.
In a special edition of the Autosport podcast, Gentry, who has worked with the likes of Chris Amon, Gilles Villeneuve, Derek Warwick, Elio de Angelis, Kevin Schwantz, Rickard Rydell, Peter Brock, Jan Lammers and Neel Jani during a 40-year career joins Edd Straw and James Newbold, to explore the challenges of engineering on two and four wheels and picks out some of his favourite drivers.
Among his many tales, Gentry recounts the rivalry between Warwick and Brian Henton in Formula 2, which got physical at Enna, and also talks about some of the great engineering minds he encountered, including Maurice Philippe, Rory Byrne, Gordon Murray and the late Robin Herd.
