IndyCar driver Ed Jones has been cleared to contest this weekend’s race at the Circuit of the Americas after breaking a bone in his hand in the season opener at St Petersburg.
Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa driver Jones clipped the inside wall at Turn 9 during the race on March 10, which fired the car across the track and heavily into the concrete barrier.
He suffered a small non-displaced fracture of the distal fourth metacarpal in his left ring finger in the impact.
Jones met with a hand surgeon in Miami after the race for treatment, leading to it being splinted.
Following an examination by IndyCar medical director Dr Geoffrey Billows, Jones has been given the go-ahead to compete.
