The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports-affiliated Meyer Shank Racing team has confirmed an expanded 2019 IndyCar programme.
As reported by Autosport, Michael Shank had been targeting a 10-race programme in 2019 and retained driver Jack Harvey will compete in the first six races of the year at St Petersburg, Austin, Barber, Long Beach, the Indianapolis road course and the Indy 500.
Harvey will then complete his season with appearances at Road America, Meyer Shank’s home race at Mid-Ohio, Portland and Laguna Seca.
“We are extremely excited to be extending our programme,” said Harvey.
“That has always been the goal for 2019 and it is amazing to achieve that and continue to grow what we are doing.
“I have to thank Michael [Shank, team co-owner]; he has put in an immense amount of work, and of course thanks to Jim Meyer [CEO of key sponsor SiriusXM] for his continued support.
“Without either of those guys, in their own way, I wouldn’t have received the opportunity I have today.
“We also wouldn’t be able to do any of this without our partners, AutoNation and SiriusXM.
“We are incredibly lucky to have two companies that believe in us and the vision of the team.
“I believe in the team and in myself to do what we have to do.”
Harvey’s best finish in 2018 was 12th at Long Beach, and the team will continue to receive support from SPM, which has announced greater funding from title sponsor Arrow this month.
Shank added: “I am really excited to see the way this programme has grown over the past season.
“Starting off with only six races is not easy, but Jack did a great job and really hung in there.
“With 10 races, Jack will have much more seat time and it will help us all around.”
Shank has previously told Autosport that he is targeting a full-time IndyCar programme in 2020, and his team continues to compete in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
