Moto2 rider Dominique Aegerter has launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover “additional expenses” for his Kiefer Racing seat.
Aegerter’s place on the grid was only confirmed earlier this month after the future of the Kiefer team was plunged into doubt when an investor pulled out.
The German squad, which lost co-founder Stefan Kiefer during last year’s Sepang round, was forced to slim down to a single KTM entry for Aegerter, leaving second rider Sandro Cortese in the cold.
While the minimum funding to ensure Kiefer can race in 2018 has been secured, Aegerter is now looking to raise an additional £148,000 to cover extra costs such as spare parts, logistics and transport, test days and fitness training.
The crowdfunding programme began on Wednesday and will continue for 50 days.
“Switzerland has an incredible tradition in motorcycle racing and I want, with the help of Swiss Sport fans, to continue this history,” said Aegerter.
