Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell’s first appearance on the main stage at Autosport International 2018 included a surprise visit from double amputee racer Billy Monger.
Monger, who had one leg amputated above the knee the other below after a British F4 crash at Donington last year, is performing as a stunt driver all weekend in the Live Action Arena at the show.
The teenager, who is targeting a return to single-seaters, appeared on stage during an interview with Mansell to meet one of his racing heroes.
“The lionheart meets the young lionheart,” said Mansell, who also performed a magic trick on stage for Monger.
“Billy is an inspiration to us all. Everyone is behind you for the rest of your career now.
“You are a great credit to yourself and the rest of the country. I see something special here, and I’ll push for you to get in the Mercedes Formula 1 car one day.”
