MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez says the only reason he can imagine leaving Honda is if he needed a change to restore his motivation.

Marquez has spent his entire premier class career up to now with Honda, winning four MotoGP titles in his five seasons there.

Although his contract expires at the end of 2018, his manager Emilio Alzamora has strongly hinted that Marquez will choose to remain where he is.

Marquez said a team switch was not at all on his radar at the moment.

“The motivation is the same as it’s always been: to improve and learn from the mistakes of the past”, he said during a recent sponsor event in Madrid.

“If I keep winning, my motivation will be the same.

“My dream was to ride with the best manufacturer and I’m living that dream.

“I’m not looking for extra motivation. I’m not missing any kind of incentives at the moment.

“When you jump into another manufacturer, it’s because you need it.

“I always have to decide what I feel is the best for me in every single moment.”

Marquez and team-mate Dani Pedrosa skipped Honda’s most recent private test at Jerez, having declared themselves satisfied with last month’s official post-season test at Valencia.

But Marquez warned that Honda will not know where it stands until next January’s Sepang test, as Valencia traditionally suits its bike.

“We haven’t really started the pre-season,” added Marquez. “During these months, there is still work to do and everything can change.

“We are in contact during the winter with the engineers. I went to Japan to see how things were going. There are parts to improve and we always do it.

“The first impression in Valencia was good, but we have to wait until we arrive at tracks where we normally struggle to see if we can gain speed.”
