The takeaway lessons from Sebastien Ogier’s victory in the 2018 World Rally Championship-opening Monte Carlo Rally are demonstrated in this clip from the latest episode of Motorsport.tv’s The Flying Lap.

Autosport Rallies Editor David Evans joins host Peter Windsor to explain how Ogier won the rally, and explain why it doesn’t necessarily lay the foundations for another dominant season.

“If you looked in isolation, you’d say ‘Ogier, same again, very predictable’ but actually it wasn’t,” says Evans.

“We learned a lot from this rally.”

Evans reveals how key mistakes from rivals helped Ogier, and how the champion’s M-Sport team watched on in horror as its driver headed into a ditch he couldn’t see while recovering from a spin.
