Chevrolet has unveiled the Camaro ZL1 its teams will use in the NASCAR Cup series from 2018.

The manufacturer has used its SS model in the series since the introduction of NASCARs Generation 6 stock cars as part of a push to make cars look more like their road-going versions in 2013.

Since replacing the Impala the SS has won 70 races in the premier series, while Chevrolet-powered drivers have also claimed three of the four Cup titles since the start of the Gen-6 era.

Chevrolet has run a Camaro in the second-tier Xfinity Series since 2013, and revealed its new ZL1 version for the 2018 Cup campaign on Thursday.

Chevrolet, Camaro and ZL1 are all synonymous with winning, both on and off the track, said Mark Reuss, executive vice president of GM Global Product Development.

We are thrilled to run Camaro in the NASCAR Cup Series next year, with the time-honoured and track-tested ZL1 badge, and were just as excited for our drivers, teams, fans and customers.

Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, who has raced the manufacturers cars since he made his Cup debut in 2001, added: The new Camaro ZL1 is a great-looking race car with a lot of heritage behind it, which will make it a big hit with fans.

Chevrolet is the most successful make in NASCAR history, winning a record 39 manufacturer titles, including 13 consecutive from 2003 to 2015.

Fellow manufacturer Toyota introduced a new version of its Camry ahead of the 2017 season.
